During the 2nd Conference on Road safety held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2011, members of the Chariots of Destiny Organization together with other NGO’s got the chance to convene and have the very first meeting for African Network for NGO’s advocating for Road safety.

The African Road Safety NGOs had participated in the First Global Road Safety Meeting in Belgium in the year 2009 and in Washington DC this year and it is due to this fact that the African NGO’s felt that it was important to have an African Network of NGO’s advocating for road safety.

This being the very first meeting the NGO representatives got straight to business and received positive results including: setting of the NGO name; AFRICAN NGO’s NETWORK FOR ROAD SAFETY. The network also came up with a day set aside to celebrate the African Road Safety Day: 31st May.

The registration of the network shall be done in Namibia, and shall have one representative from each region in the network. It was also decided that only NGO’s that have been registered since 2009 will be allowed to join the network. An executive team was formed during this meeting for a three year non renewable mandate.

This being the first of many meetings we anticipate nothing but the best in regards to improving the road safety not only in Kenya but in the whole African region.

In attendance were:

Missimikim Martial - SECUROUTE Cameroon- Coordinator.
