Road Safety Week
The Road Safety Week was marked in Nairobi during the month of June. Sponsored by the Sameer group, it was organized by the Red Cross society of Kenya, Association for safe international road safety (ASIRT) amongst others.
The event was launched by a media break fast at the Sarova Panafric and road safety awareness at the traffic park. The breakfast was officially opened by the Roads Minister Franklin Bett amidst other dignitaries. From the Breakfast there was a walk to the traffic park in which various participants including C.O.D. had a stand. Several members of the public and dignitaries visited the stand including former Vice President H.E. Moody Awori, Mr. Bill Lay-General Motors East Africa Managing Director and senior management from Yana tires. Participants were sensitized on the need to adhere to traffic rules and ways in which to minimize road accidents. C.O.D. gave a presentation on the road safety Decade of Action 2010 to 2020 which was well received and participants mobbed the C.O.D. stand to find out more information and sign the form.
Through a raffle, members of the public won wristbands and T-shirts. Plenty of happy faces left the stand armed with remnants and with better knowledge in advocating for road safety. Rhoda-a Red Cross volunteer -had this to say ”I’m extremely grateful to the staff of C.O.D. for educating me on aspects that I wasn’t conversant with. I find what they advocate and implement very practical to me since I encounter these situations in the field and I’m now better equipped to carry out my duties effectively. Thanks C.O.D. and keep up the good work.”
All in all, the event was a success and as an organization, C.O.D. was encouraged to march on one step at a time.
