MA SADD Youth Conference - October 19th - 20th 2008
The Chariots of Destiny Organization Executive Director Casey Marenge participated at the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) annual youth conference held in Massachusetts (USA). SADD was started slightly over 25 years committed to empowering young people to lead education and prevention initiatives in their schools and communities. Originally founded as Students Against Drunk Driving, today SADD has grown to be one of the largest youth centred organizations with over 7 million young people in schools with a SADD chapter all around the USA.
Casey who is also the Make Roads Safe Campaign youth Ambassador participated as an exhibitor at the two day conference workshops. The workshops highlighted specific programs and activities that provide young people with the opportunity to influence their schools and communities in meaningful and positive ways. Casey got the chance to speak to several students about the importance of road safety, causes and effects road crashes. Being a victim of a road crash herself, Casey got to share her experience with different students and to highlight the dangers on the roads especially to the youth!
The theme of the conference being America's Next Top "role" Model , students were graced by compelling author, entrepreneur and speaker Cara Filler who is indeed America's Next Top Role Model! Cara who speaks to different groups all over the world on realizing one's full potential and the power of choice began her mission about nine years ago after a tragic road crash took the life of her identical twin sister just a day after their 18th birthday. Road traffic crashes are the number one cause of death amongst young people aged 10 to 20. It is in this regard that initiatives such as COD, SADD and the Make Roads Safe Campaign play a vital role in making a difference and bringing a stop to this epidemic!
