"Chariots of destiny" is an organisation based in Nairobi, Kenya. It was started by Casey Marenge to create a much-needed difference in the transport sector for people living with physical disabilities.
After a tragic road accident left Casey quadriplegic [paralyzed from the shoulders down] , and fully dependent on a wheelchair, |
|
Casey saw the need to start Chariots of destiny with the aim to provide wheelchair accessible vehicles that would facilitate in the transportation of people on wheelchairs as well as those with physical disabilities. In a situation where public transport does not specifically cater for people with disabilities, and they have to undergo the trauma of either lifting themselves in and out of vehicles or being lifted, not forgetting the dangers that come along with it, "chariots of destiny" aims at enabling those with physical disabilities to comfortably move from one area to another
As a result this will not only lead to, economic empowerment through getting access to employment, starting and running businesses, but also free them from the prison of their homes by enabling them to access essential services like physiotherapy, medical facilities, and counselling services. They would also be socially empowered as interaction with members of the society, as well as attending private and public functions and entertainment center’s would now be made easier, and through visibility bring about awareness for people with disabilities, advocate more for their rights and eradicate the stigma inflicted on them by society. |
